This short block is intended for light boost to achieve up to 1,100 crank horsepower. The Callies Compstar center counterweighted crank with stock stroke brings a lot to the party. Its increased stiffness and reduce harmonics minimize flexing thereby protecting the block, bearings and rods from excessive wear and fatigue. We have seen that using 8 counterweight cranks essentially eliminates the uneven bearing wear that is often seen in LS engines with the standard 6 counterweights. Another benefit of sticking with a stock stroke for boost is that it revs up faster than a stroker crank which in turn helps turbos spool faster.
In our opinion, a seasoned block that we have gone over with our CNCs is a better foundation than a new block new from GM. It certainly offers more value. We push these seasoned 6.0L blocks well over 1,000 hp with no problem. That's however way beyond the capabilities of the stock cast crank and powdered metal rods.
We use Diamond Race Series dish pistons and Callies Extreme I-beam rods to complete the rotating assembly. The rods are made with 4340 alloy. The pistons are made from 2168 alloy with wrist pins of 9310 alloy. The forgings are domestic and these parts are loaded with features.
This ad's video shows one of these 370ci shortblocks pushing out 1,063 hp on our dyno with ProChargers's new D1X system.
